Labour Day long weekend – not a labour at all

April 15, 2012 in Trip reports, Trips

With most of us able and wanting to head up Friday, B2 & Cheryl, Sam & Kathy, David & Chantal headed up during the afternoon, whilst the rest of us apart from John & Bronny, came up Friday night. John & Bronny followed up Saturday morning. We had a slow start to the day Saturday, wanting to wait for John to get into camp, and everyone to get up and have breakfast, turned into staying for lunch and heading out about 1pm for a short afternoon drive. We headed west out of camp, to shortly head north into the top [...]

Annual Pub Crawl – 2012

March 6, 2012 in Events, Social

Another year and another country pub crawl arranged by Sonja and Warren.  What can I say…what happens on the pub crawl, stays on the pub crawl.    It was a great day.  We traipsed through approx 6 pubs and stayed down in Heathcote.  Want more details, you will have to speak with someone who was more “attentive” as to where we went.   By Casey May…

Welcome back! Now, shave or colour …?

March 6, 2012 in Random, Social, Trip reports

This year, B2 offered his beautiful white beard and what hair he has on his head to the colour or shave for a cure.  On the welcome back BBQ at Eric and Nancy’s house, Bushtrek members had the chance to  vote for which colour or colours B2 ended up with on his head.  It seems that pink and green won.  Raising $510, this was obviously something that more than one person wanted done! Aside from the colouring, the annual welcome back party was a fantastic event.  Thanks to Eric and Nancy to offering their home again for the party, and [...]

A quick history of the Nissan Patrol

March 6, 2012 in Random

First generation (4W60 series; 1951–1960) In September 1951 the 4W60 was introduced. The overall styling was similar to the Willys Jeep. The 4W60 used the 75 hp 3.7L Nissan NAK engine from the Nissan 290 bus, but with part-time 4-wheel drive and a 4-speed manual transmission. The grille had a pressed-steel Nissan badge. A 4W70 Carrier-based wagon was available. The 4W60 was replaced with the 4W61 in August 1955. Second generation (60 series; 1960–1980) The soft-top Nissan Patrol 60 (two-door; 2,200 mm (86.6 in) wheelbase) and G60 (two-door; 2,500 mm (98.4 in) wheelbase) were first sold in Australia in 1960. What’s scary about Haunted Stream on Halloween…?

March 6, 2012 in Medium, Trip reports, Trips

I thought this trip would be much like many others.  I would get in the car, we would drive to our camp site, set up, drink, sleep, then drive some more.  We might even see some amazing things along the way, if I was awake at the time to see them… When I found out we were heading to Haunted Stream, I was more than just a little surprised, especially as Jason was leading the trip.  I have never been to Haunted Stream before, and most likely this is because Jason refuses to go there as a result of what [...]

Who invented the 4WD

September 5, 2011 in Random

Historians seem not certain who invented four wheel drive for cars. Somehow the history of 4WD is not well recorded. According to what I found on the internet, the first 4WD vehicle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche (yes, the founder of Porsche cars) for the Austrian truck manufacturer Jacob Lohner in 1900 (no typo). The first vehicle in the history of 4WD had electric hub motors on each wheel – the engine powered a generator for power supply. Porsche was 25 years old when he designed the vehicle. By the way, NASA used the idea of electric wheel hub motors [...]

Pub Trip to Alexandra, 20th November 2010

August 11, 2011 in Trip reports, Trips

Who: Sonja, Warren, Jason, Casey, Michelle, Darren, Chantal, David and Visitors Lyn and Gary. Casey and Warren were designated drivers! What happened: The adventure began early and the first drinks were consumed on route to the first pit stop at about 10am on the way to the St Andrews hippy markets just up the road from Sonja and Warren.
